Brigadoon Lodge on the Soque River »

Brigadoon Lodge on the Soque River

Reported as the best trout fishing in the country, Brigadoon Lodge on the Soque River near Claresville, Georgia contains a plentiful population of huge trout. I was recently invited by fishing guide Mark Smith to photograph a group of fishermen. You can visit Brigadoon's website at www.brigadoonlodge.com.

Soque River Trout Fishing

The Soque River in north Georgia offers some world class trout fishing, most of which is on private land. I recently had the opportunity to tag along with guide Mark Smith for a couple hours of personal fishing in a public stretch of the river. I always say that blue bird skys and bright sun are crappy for both fishing and photography, and true to [...]

Skatepark

On a recent weekend my son brought two of his friends with him to visit. In a compromise to keep everyone, including me, engaged and entertained we visited three local skate parks. They got to skate-I got to make photographs. Everyone happy. I used a Bronica SQAi 6x6 camera with a 40mm lens and a small on camera flash for fill. I have since [...]

Jekyll Island Holga »

Jekyll Island Holga

I have mentioned before that the Holga is my beach camera of choice. These are from a trip to Jekyll Island on the coast of Georgia. In spite of this camera's limitations I am finding it to be a very viable tool for making nice images, given the magic combinations of film, and lighting conditions.

Holga in a bar

I took the Holga camera to a local bar loaded with Ilford Delta 3200 film. I have modified my Holga so that it has a "bulb" setting, which means that the shutter will stay open as long as I keep the button pushed down. Most of these exposures were made for a "count to ten." As the night wore on, and I had a few drinks, eh...exposure times may [...]

Fishing Dukes Creek »

Fishing Dukes Creek

Dukes Creek is a managed trophy trout stream located in the Smithgall Woods nature preserve in north Georgia. On a good day a good fisherman can catch and release a large rainbow or brown trout. On the rest of the days he usually only gets casting practice. I had to opportunity to tag along with a friend to hone my stealthy camera tactics as he [...]

Santa Monica Homeless »

Santa Monica Homeless

I made a visit to Santa Monica to do some photography for the musician/actor Greg Cipes.  During the visit I had time to wander around Santa Monica and Venice Beach with my cameras. The most interesting thing I found was the abundant homeless people. I understand there are various reasons for homelessness, some self-inflicted, and some beyond the [...]

Holga images-St. Simon’s Island

For those not familar with the Holga camera, it is a plastic medium format camera made in China and sold as a toy. Over recent years the Holga and similar low quality cameras have skyrocketed in popularity among artsy amatuers and professionals alike. Out of the box the Holga is pretty much useless. Part of the fun of owning a Holga are [...]
