The Positive Light Project is progressing! This entire idea came about as the result of my attempt to get a grant to do make-overs and portraits for foster children in a small north Georgia town. Not one single local organization would take on the task of being the fiscal sponsor and administer the measley 1500 dollar grant. I even promised to raise the 1/2 cash match myself! That expereince frustrated me so much that I threw up the mental finger and began researching the posibility of starting my own non-profit. My research led me to the conclusion that there is an un-tapped niche in the non-profit sector. Most have inadequate imagery for fundraising and awareness campaings. My intention is to be able to create compelling photographic essays and documentary works that can then be used to help existing non-profits increase their own fundrasing and public awareness campaigns. Instead of re-inventing a wheel, we are going to try to grease some axels. If successful we will be able to involve other photographers and help even more organizations. If very successful, I may be able to reach low-income status!
To get things started we need to be able to fund our own first projects in order to show viability and create a base of content. We also will need funds, and time, to estblish our own non-profit 501(c)3 status in order to be able to solicit tax deductible donations. Our goal is to be able to offer this service for no-cost or at-cost to most organizations. This service can extremely valuable to many organizations. To hire top level professional photographers, videographers, and graphic designers would cost thousands of dollars in the commercial market. Rather than compete with existing organizations for a place to help the planet, we will help further the important causes they have already invested so much into.
If we can raise the funds to get my butt to Kenya, our first project will be a documentary for the Samburu Project. This small organization drills drinking water wells for the Samburu tribe so that the women will no longer have to walk up to 12 miles each day to fetch water. visit them at www.thesamburuproject.org. Please consider clicking the “Donate” button here on our site and help us acheive this goal of being able to take wings and complete our first project.
